BIOSTAR has successfully digested and has released a “new” motherboard based on the Intel H61 chipset platform since 2011.
Currently, Intel is in the ninth generation of its Core architecture, and it won’t be long before the 10th generation is coming. However, BIOSTAR manufacturer has suddenly announced the motherboard generation based on the H61 chipset platform for 2/3 generation Intel Core chips since … 2011. Specifically, the model H61MHV2 of BIOSTAR supports 2/3 generation Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 chips, as well as Pentium and Celeron chips using socket 1155.
Because H61 is a 9-year-old platform up to now, so H61MHV2 also lacks new technologies. This motherboard has 2 RAM slots, but is DDR3 RAM instead of DDR4. Not only is there no M2 slot for SSD, but H61MHV2 doesn’t even support SATA 3 6Gbps, just stop at SATA 2 3Gbps. This motherboard also doesn’t support USB 3.0, it’s just USB 2.0.

However, the H61MHV2 is still equipped with a number of “amenities” such as HDMI port, PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, gigabit LAN port … all inside a compact mATX form factor, can fit even small cases.
Obviously, for those looking to build themselves a new PC, there’s no way they’ll opt for an old-fashioned platform like the H61. However, this motherboard from BIOSTAR can be considered as a “savior” for those owners of old PCs that have a problem, only want to replace components, not the need (or condition) to upgrade. onto a new PC.
